BreastCentre Zurich

Aftercare following breast cancer treatment is an essential part of our care. We not only support you, but also try to minimise the risk of recurrence as much as possible. Women who have already had breast cancer have a higher risk of it recurring. It therefore makes sense for you to come to us for regular check-ups. These check-ups also help us to recognise a recurrence or a second cancer at an early stage. This increases the chance that we can treat you successfully.

Aftercare procedure

Our aftercare is carried out by doctors with oncological experience. This may be the gynaecologist, the family doctor, an oncologist or a specialist from the Breast Centre Zurich.

Patients who have undergone chemotherapy also arrange regular check-ups with oncologists. Such examinations are often also useful for patients undergoing anti-hormonal therapy. If you are being examined by more than one doctor, it is of course worth arranging check-ups.

The aim of breast cancer aftercare is to ensure that you achieve and maintain the best possible state of health. After successful initial treatment(surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy), regular check-ups help to achieve several goals:

What does the follow-up examination involve?

The follow-up examination begins with a careful questioning by the doctor and a palpation of the affected and healthy breast. Imaging procedures such as mammography and a breast ultrasound are also regularly used. If necessary, we also carry out special laboratory tests or other necessary investigations.

The follow-up examinations are customised to your risk situation and your needs. They are therefore very individualised.

Studies

Studies help to improve the treatment of breast cancer. As a certified breast centre, we also share our findings with the research community. These can be purely follow-up studies. In other words, we observe how patients react to a specific treatment. Other studies test different therapies. While one patient receives treatment A, the other receives treatment B. We then monitor both patients and determine which treatment is more suitable. This allows us to derive findings for the treatment of future patients. Of course, you decide whether you want to take part in a trial or not. Our doctors will discuss this with you in advance.
