Pain is a multi-layered symptom. The concept of pain medicine takes a biopsychosocial approach to diagnosis and treatment. Chronic pain should be regarded as a disease in its own right and must be specifically diagnosed and treated - the earlier, the better.
Our specialist in pain medicine, Dr Henner Niebergall, treats musculoskeletal pain, head and facial pain, pain caused by nerve injuries and/or nerve diseases (multiple sclerosis, shingles), pain caused by spasticity (e.g. after a stroke), tumour pain and pain of unknown cause. In pain medicine, close interdisciplinary cooperation is maintained with doctors from other specialist disciplines such as orthopaedics, surgery, gynaecology, internal medicine, radiology, neurology, psychology/psychiatry as well as with accredited specialists and the therapy centre (physiotherapy and occupational therapy).
