Clinic for Surgery

Visceral surgery is a specialised field of surgery involving treatment of the viscera, diaphragm and abdominal wall (e.g. hernia) as well as the endocrine glands. Visceral surgeons usually work closely with colleagues in gastroenterology in diagnosis and treatment.

We prefer to perform abdominal operations laparoscopically, which means minimally invasive by means of laparoscopy. For certain procedures, it is not possible to avoid opening the abdominal cavity.

Typical visceral surgery procedures

  • Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (removal of the gallbladder in the case of gallstone disease or inflammation)
  • Laparoscopic appendectomy (removal of the appendix)
  • Laparoscopic removal of parts of the colon (for example in the case of diverticula or tumours)
  • Endoscopic and open treatment of inguinal or abdominal wall hernias
  • Laparoscopic operations on the stomach (diaphragmatic hernias, reflux, tumours)

The ERAS treatment concept

The standardised treatment concept ERAS (Enhanced Recovery after Surgery) is used for certain operations. The concept stands for gentle treatment during surgical procedures and optimal post-operative recovery.
